MPS Enters VAG Trophy and VW Racing Cup

Tim DockerWith the benefit of sponsorship from a number of key business partners MPS has entered a VW Scirocco R in this year’s Volkswagen Automotive Group (VAG) Trophy and selected rounds of the VW Racing Cup. The car will be driven by MPS Director Tim Docker in his first year of competitive motorsport.

The VAG Trophy showed just why it is being dubbed the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) feeder series with a stunning opening round at Oulton Park at the end of May. A grid of 25 cars lined up for the first round, with a great mix of experience and first-time racers eager to get their seasons off to a flier. A huge crowd at the Cheshire track was rewarded with two amazing races – one in very difficult, changing conditions and the second featured battles right down the field as the sun finally broke through.

The theme continued with two triple headers in April and May at Donnington and Brands Hatch Indy where Tim broke in to the top 15 of a 32 car grid for the first time with a 14th place.

The VW Racing Cup on the Silverstone GP Circuit in June was a wet affair with Tim running 15th in race 1 before an electrical fault curtailed his race. Race 2 was cancelled as the Hanger Straight turned in to a lake!

Tim returned to VAG Trophy competition on the GP circuit at Brands Hatch at the end of July and recorded his first top ten finish in race 2 having started 17th on a 30 car grid. August is a busy month for the VAG Trophy with meetings at Snetterton on 6th and Oulton Park on 20th.

Tim will also race in the VW Racing Cup at Snetterton on 7th August.
